The best RPG and gamified fitness apps in 2026

Gamified fitness apps all promise to make training feel like a game. They do it in very different ways, and the right one depends on how you train. Here is what each is actually good at.

Awaken: best for strength and home training as an RPG

Awaken is built around the workout itself. You log real sets, reps, weight or hold time, and the System turns them into XP, six stats (Strength, Endurance, Agility, Vitality, Intelligence, Willpower) and a Rank from F to SSS that is re-evaluated only on long-term consistency.

Pick something else if you mainly run (Zombies, Run! is made for that), you want to gamify your whole to-do list (Habitica), or you are on iPhone today (Awaken is Android-only for now).

Arise: the best-known anime workout RPG

Arise (Golden Gate Media) is the most downloaded app in this niche on Google Play, with over a million installs and a 4.6-star rating in October 2026. It builds an AI workout plan from your goals, schedule and equipment, and adds daily quests, XP, achievements and character levels in an anime-inspired style. Its listing notes that the custom workout plan requires a subscription.

Choose Arise if you want the most established app of the genre. Choose Awaken if you want the full system around the plan: Ranks F to SSS, penalty quests, five classes, guilds and leaderboards checked on the server, with the plan itself free. Full comparison: Awaken vs Arise.

Habitica: best for gamifying all your habits

Habitica turns habits, dailies and to-dos into an RPG with classes, parties and boss quests. It is not a workout tracker: exercise is one habit among others, and it doesn't know what you lifted. It is free on iOS, Android and the web, with an optional subscription that is mostly cosmetic.

Choose Habitica if you want one RPG for your whole life. Choose Awaken if the RPG should come from your actual training. Full comparison: Awaken vs Habitica.

Zombies, Run!: best for runners

An audio adventure for running: missions play through your headphones and zombie chases push your pace. It is excellent for cardio and has a long-running story. It is not built for strength training. You can try it free, and full access is a subscription.

Comparison: Awaken vs Zombies, Run!.

Ring Fit Adventure: best as a video game

Nintendo's exercise RPG for the Switch is a real game with a world, enemies and bosses, played with the Ring-Con and a leg strap. It is great fun in your living room, but you need the console and accessories, and it tracks your progress inside the game rather than your training in general.

Solo Leveling-style quest apps

Beyond Arise, several smaller apps on Google Play have recreated the "daily quest" from Solo Leveling: a checklist of push-ups, sit-ups, squats and a run, with XP for ticking it off. Some add focus timers or app blocking. They are a quick, fun way to start.

The difference with Awaken is where the numbers come from. Most of these apps reward you for saying you did a quest. Awaken scores the sets you actually log, builds a real training plan around your equipment, and checks sessions on the server, so ranks and leaderboards mean the same for everyone. More on that: a system-manhwa workout app.

A note on Fitocracy

Fitocracy was the best-known gamified workout community of the 2010s. It is no longer actively developed, so it isn't included above.
